Prolific behind and in front of the camera Anthony Trenchwood grew to be an
important player in the studio. Trenchwood joined the studio in 1936 for
Beards-a-blazing in which he starred opposite PDA Kirwan. The pair were to form a
comic double act, culminating in their portrayal of Dr F and Egor in Wanted: Body
Parts, from the Horror Canon.
Trenchwood played a variety of roles
at Whiskerino, but is best remembered as the original mad scientist
Dr F. He portrayed him twice in the Horror Canon (alongside PDA Kirwan's
Egor - pictured right), and reprised the characterisation for Hired Spirits.
He often said that Dr F was the best role he ever got to play.
Having worked briefly on the radio and as a writer Trenchwood fell to acting to
help finance his love of motor racing. After a period of success both on the track
and on the screen Trenchwood retired from racing and threw himself
wholeheartedly into film production.
Trenchwood's success with
Whiskerino Productions continued behind the camera too. He produced three of the studio's features and co-wrote another two.
His finest moment came when he wrote and directed fan favourite Hired Spirits,
the last hit the studios had.
