In the opening scene of this comedy Bar Keep proudly puts up a sign saying
"The Transelvation Arms". Unfortunately once inside he bemoans the lack of
customers to his barmaid. Things seem bleak until Jim, a travelling salesman, knocks
looking for a cheap place to stay. The lamp oil seller has little to offer Bar Keep
in way of payment. Bar Keep says he can stay for free if he can help get more
customers into the inn.
Jim suggests a special event and Bar Keep searches the records to find that a
whiskerino contest has been held on the site for many years. The pair revive the
tradition and Jim makes a pretty penny selling his oil around the village as a beard
tonic. Even Bar Keep buys some.
As the contestants arrive with oil laden beards Bar Keep lights the stove to make
a traditional grass wine. Immediately his beard bursts into flames.
Unfortunately Old Tom tries to put it out by smothering him and soon all the beards are
a-blazing. The film ends with everyone diving head first into the horse trough and
Jim leaving via the window (on the first floor).
Bar Keep: "Does this [oil] really work then?"
Jim: "This stuff would put hairs on a billiard ball."
Bar Keep: "Can't see that being much use."
