When an atom bomb is exploded off the coast of Cornwall, the radiation has a strange effect on the marine life.  A local fisherman is knocked off his boat by the blast with a cod in his arms.  The radiation fuses the two together creating a killer fish man creature.

The monster comes inland and is lead via a trail of breadcrumbs to Filo bakers, next door to the Transelvation Arms.  The creature kills Filo and hides in the village pond.  Meantime restaurant owner Armando is complaining that business is slow.   Since the explosion he has had to take his world famous scampi off the menu and trade has fallen off as a result.  In order to get some much needed fish he sends two local lads down to the pond armed with fishing rods.

The boys decide to take a dip in the pond, but get the fright of their lives when the fish fiend jumps out of the fronds in front of them.  At a hastily convened meeting held in the town hall (The Transelvation Arms not being used due to PDA Kirwan's unavailability) the boys cannot give a good account of themselves and the matter is dismissed.  Nothing more is thought about the affair until the fish kills all the ducks in the pond and maims a passing fishmonger.

The villagers meet again and decide to hire a local prize fisherman - Flint, to hunt the beast.  This proves a difficult task until he teams up with the Burgomaster and they attempt to lure the fishman into a trap with the aid of a wild goat.  It goes awry when the fish follows the Burgemaster into the fish and chip shop.  It eventually falls into the batter and is fried.  The villagers celebrate with a bang up fish and chip supper.

Flint: "You just wait there Burgomaster, we'll catch this fish with no trouble."
(Fishman roars and runs past the Burgomaster)
Burgomaster: "You're gonna need a bigger goat."
