Down in the village in
the Transelvation Arms inn, the town elders have gathered to discuss the mysterious events
taking place. In almost every entry in the Horror Canon the Transelvationers gather
to express their fears about the latest terror that is stalking the countryside.
Invariably in the Transelvation Arms
the villagers seek the council of Bar Keep (played by PDA Kirwan, near
right). The advice
he gives is usually centred around drinking. Often the local Burgomaster (as in The
Potion Mixture, pictured far right) discusses with Bar Keep the terrible shortage of ale
in the district.
Town meetings are held in the bar
where the villagers can exchange information over a cup of mead. This provides Bar
Keep with the perfect opportunity to try out a new brew he has obtained from Flim Flam (in
an elaborate ruse, Flim Flam has unwittingly brought Dr J's potion to its test subjects).
At times the villagers decide that
swift action is required and they must take matters into their own hands. In Wanted: Body Parts, after a
quick and heated meeting they decide to throw the creature which is
currently roaming the village
out to sea.
The villagers however are not always
just helplessly terrorised. In The Night of the Roasting Pig the
action centres entirely on the villagers in the Transelvation Arms. During a summer night when temperatures
soar, several of the locals become mad and go on the rampage. Eventually they are
calmed by a large roast pork supper.
The worried villagers typically
comprised: Bar Keep, the Burgomaster, Brown Hat, Dopey Dick, Blind Boy Lemonade, the Old
Hag, Major Rich, Toothless Pete, Spineless John, Legless Bob, Armless Harry, Blisters
McGuire, Samuel Sandstone, Kipper Figgis, Watchword Will, Old Joe, Old Tom, Cook the
gardener, Kathy Rubblepot, Jack the milkman, Harry the bee keeper, Old Iron Eyes and
several others not credited.
There is a Whiskerino drinking game
which can be played whilst watching the Horror Canon. In order to play you must
watch the villagers and take a drink every time Bar Keep says "Oh by jingo";
Brown Hat removes her hat; Watchword Will actually says anything; or when Legless Bob
falls over. A full set of the rules as currently understood will appear on this site
shortly.
