| Pictured below is a representation of the Whiskerino mascot / emblem. The mascot sometimes referred to as Sir Percy appeared at the beginning of the majority of films the small studio produced. |
Initially it was thought that the figure was modelled after Sir Peregrin Oglastone who was one of the backers of the studio, but there is little evidence to support this. It is also highly unlikely that the production team would risk their funding by upsetting one of their main financial backers. The original statue is thought to have stood around three feet high and was made from plaster. The figure sustained some damage in a move from London where it had been temporarily displayed at a collector's home. The minor damage to the eye was never fully repaired however the lost tongue was replaced by J.Biddle & Sons, the firm who made the figure. Souvenir badges featuring Sir Percy's face were given to the majority of the people who worked for Whiskerino. Today these are very sort after items and have become quite valuable. Sir Percy appears at the end of several films sporting a beard - in reference no doubt to the whiskerino in the studio name. This beard was an optical effect added later and it is doubtful whether an actual beard was made to fit the statue. Sadly no records exist today as J.Biddle & Sons folded shortly before the second world war. |
